Habit 5
Tiny Habits Tracker with If-Then Plans
Big changes are hard to keep. Tiny habits are small enough to do on a bad day, and each one comes with an if-then plan that ties it to something you already do.
How it works
- 1Pick two to four habits so small they are hard to skip, like a 10-minute walk or water before meals.
- 2Give each one an if-then plan: “After lunch, I walk around the block.”
- 3Tick them off each day and watch the week fill in.
- 4When a habit feels automatic, make it a little bigger or add another.
Why it helps
- If-then plans, which researchers call implementation intentions, make new habits far more likely to happen.
- Linking a new habit to an existing routine gives it a reliable cue.
- Small wins build confidence, which makes the next habit easier.
Questions
How long does a habit take to form?
It varies a lot from person to person and habit to habit, often weeks to months. Missing the odd day does not reset the clock.
